Get Started

Shared finances in ClearCash work through groups. A group lets you track shared accounts, split expenses, and view combined net worth with one or more other people — a partner, housemate, or family member.

Start with a group

Open the Groups tab and tap Create Group.

Give the group a name and, if you want, a short description. The person who creates the group becomes its first Owner.

You do not need to configure every detail immediately. You can create the group first, then come back to members, splits, and sharing settings afterward.

Invite your partner

You can add your partner during setup or later from the group’s settings.

In most cases:

  • Enter their name
  • Choose their role
  • Add their email so they can receive an invitation and join with their own ClearCash account

If you only want to include someone in split tracking without inviting them into the app yet, you can add them later as a placeholder member from the group settings.

If they accept the invitation, the group appears in their Groups tab after they sign in with that email address.

Share the accounts that matter

Creating the group does not automatically share any accounts.

Once your partner is in the group, each person can decide what to share with it. This is what keeps personal accounts private while still making shared finances visible.

Common examples:

  • Share a joint checking account used for household bills
  • Share a shared credit card used for groceries or travel
  • Keep personal spending accounts private

ClearCash can also apply split percentages so the shared picture reflects who is actually responsible for what.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does my partner need to have ClearCash to be added to my group?

If you want them to see shared data and manage their own access, yes — they need their own ClearCash account. You can still track someone in the group’s split structure without inviting them yet by adding them later as a placeholder member.

Can I be in more than one group?

Yes. You can create or join as many groups as you need — for example, one with a partner and another with housemates.

Can I change a member’s role after the group is created?

Yes. Group owners can update member roles at any time from the group settings. See Adding members →

What happens if I change the split percentages?

Split changes apply from the date you set them. ClearCash uses a split timeline, so historical transactions keep their original splits and only later transactions use the updated percentages. See Splitting an expense →
