Connected accounts link directly to your bank via Plaid and sync your balances and transactions automatically. Once connected, you don’t need to enter transactions manually — ClearCash keeps your data up to date.

How the connection works

ClearCash uses Plaid to connect to thousands of banks and credit unions. When you connect an institution, Plaid authenticates you with your bank directly.

ClearCash never sees your bank credentials. Authentication happens entirely within Plaid’s secure flow — your username and password go directly to your bank, not to ClearCash.

After connecting, ClearCash imports:

  • The accounts you selected during the Plaid flow (checking, savings, credit cards, etc.)
  • Available transaction history for those accounts, typically 12–24 months depending on your bank

Transactions continue to sync automatically as new ones arrive. Balances are updated each time the app refreshes your data.

Adding a connected institution

From the Accounts screen, tap Add Institution and select your bank from the Plaid search. Log in with your bank credentials in the Plaid flow, select which accounts to link, and confirm. Your accounts and history are imported in the background.

Connection statuses

Each connected account shows a status indicating the health of its Plaid connection:

StatusWhat it means
ConnectedActively syncing — everything is working
PendingConnection is being established
Reconnect RequiredYour bank session has expired — action needed
ErrorSomething went wrong with the connection
DisconnectedThe account has been unlinked

Reconnecting

When an account shows Reconnect Required or Error, tap the account to open its details and follow the prompt to go through the Plaid flow again. This is common after changing your bank password.

A reconnect doesn’t duplicate your data. ClearCash picks up where it left off once the connection is restored.

Mixing connected and manual accounts

You can have both connected and manual accounts at the same time. They appear together in your account list and both contribute to net worth and reports. This is useful for accounts at banks not supported by Plaid, or for tracking cash.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stop syncing an account without deleting it?

You can disconnect the Plaid connection from the account details screen. The account and its existing transactions remain in ClearCash — it just becomes a manual account going forward.

Why is a transaction missing from my connected account?

Banks typically make transactions available 1–3 days after they post. Pending transactions are generally not included. If a transaction is still missing after a few days, try manually refreshing the connection from the account details screen.

How far back does imported transaction history go?

This depends on your bank. Most banks make 12–24 months of history available through Plaid. If you need older history, you can import it from a CSV export. See Importing transactions from CSV →

Is my bank login stored anywhere?

No. Plaid handles authentication and only shares read-only account data with ClearCash. Your bank credentials are never transmitted to or stored by ClearCash.
